Key concerns to address
- Section 6 and Ref. [5]: provide a resolving persistent identifier for the verifier archive, and state solver tolerances, the full parameter/history manifest, error normalization and software environment in the manuscript itself.
- Sections 2-5: quote verbatim the source's Eqs. (2.23)-(2.27), (A4)-(A6), (2.31), (2.33)-(2.36), (3.13) and (B13)-(B14), so each alleged discrepancy can be checked against the version of record without the archive.
- Section 4, Eq. (10): derive or bound the corrections from η−η_c and the time-dependent thermal coefficient, or restrict the claim explicitly to the frozen scalar equation.
- Section 3, Eq. (7): demonstrate from the source text that P_{0,X} denotes total rather than perturbation pressure, since the negative-pressure conclusion depends on it.
- Section 1: state whether any erratum, corrigendum or author response to [1] exists, and reconcile the 24-page arXiv count with the 26-page INSPIRE listing and the byte-identity claim.
- Section 3: state explicitly that Section 3 does not solve the repaired non-affine momentum system, and confine the outflow-reversal conclusions to the printed ODEs accordingly.
Message to authors
Your manuscript requires major revision. The Section 2 counterexample is clear and verifiable: the printed bremsstrahlung form has zero initial cooling slope, whereas the Bernoulli solution does not. The available source excerpts match your Eq. (4). The bounded treatment in Sections 3-5 is also a strength. However, all three reviewers found that the archive DOI in Ref. [5] does not resolve, leaving the Section 6 numerical evidence unverifiable. Several secondary allegations, including (B14), (2.35)-(2.36) and (3.13), are not checkable without verbatim source equations. To proceed, please:
- supply a resolving archive and state the computational specification in the text;
- quote the relevant source equations;
- justify the asymptotic expansion in Eq. (10);
- clarify the pressure convention used in Eq. (7);
- report whether any erratum or author response already addresses these points.
Rationale
Verdict: major revision.
The central Section 2 finding is checkable and the reviewers' evidence partly supports it. Reviewer 1 quotes the source's pressure factor as "CcoolI[J]^{1/(1−b)} − 1". Reviewer 2's excerpt of source Eq. (2.26) absorbs constants into Ccool raised to 1/(1−b). Both match the submission's Eq. (4), which puts P0 outside the nonlinear power. Differentiating Eqs. (2)-(3) recovers Eq. (1), and the b=1/2 initial-slope test in Eq. (5) rules out the printed form independently of its coefficient, as Reviewer 2 notes. No reviewer cited prior art containing this correction, so the contribution is a substantive comment-level audit.
Three defects block acceptance.
- All three reviewers report that the archive DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23780790 (Ref. [5], Section 6) is not_found. Every numerical tolerance in Section 6 (9.76×10^-16, 4,096 outflow states, 150-digit checks) therefore rests on an unresolvable record.
- Reviewers 1 and 3 persuasively note that the secondary allegations against source Eqs. (2.31), (2.35)-(2.36), (3.13) and (B14) are attributed without verbatim quotation. Reviewer 2's fact-check could not confirm the B14 factor.
- Reviewer 2 correctly observes that Eq. (10) freezes η and the thermal coefficient without bounding the omitted terms.
I do not adopt Reviewer 1's reject. The core derivation stands independently of the archive, and the archive defect is repairable.
The decision would move toward acceptance with four changes: a resolving archive, verbatim source equations, justified asymptotic bounds for Eq. (10), and a stated check for any published erratum or author response.
